What we do:
We provide athletes with the opportunity to compete in sporting events while raising money for charity.
Why we do it:
Champions for Charity is dedicated to empowering athletes so that they can make a difference in the community around them.
How we achieve it:
By holding sporting events, we allow athletes to play at a competitive level, while maintaining a focus on raising money for charity. Each event has a specific charitable incorporation, whether it be teams choosing their own charities, or all funds going directly to one cause.
OUR STORY
Andrew RothFounder, Executive DirectorYouth in my generation are simply not aware of the impact they can make in the community around them. Growing up in a society where news and media are shared instantly across the world, I perceived that many youth like me believe that impacting the community requires being an adult. To change this belief, I began searching for a way young people like me could make a difference.
As an athlete, I saw the potential to empower youth through sports. Sports unite people of different backgrounds for a common purpose, and establish a connection between players, fans, and community that is hard to find elsewhere. Many charity sports tournaments exist where teams compete and the event raises money for a singular cause. As a participant in these types of events, I knew that this just was not enough to empower me to make a difference. That was when I incorporated the aspect of each team representing the charity of their choice. I figured if I were able to compete for a cause close to my heart, I would feel an extraordinary connection. When I founded Champions for Charity, I did so with the vision of being able to represent a personal cause, to feel empowered to help those affected by that cause, and to connect with teammates and the community in a wonderful way. I strongly believe in our ability as a society to unite together even in this increasingly disjointed world, and I believe that the capacity to make a difference lies among youth like me. I hope Champions for Charity can serve its purpose not only to do good, but to serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for my generation, to extract selflessness through altruism, and to link humanity together. |
Hear what our previous leaders have to say!
I'm a senior at the Shaker Heights High School and have been part of C4C for four years. I've loved every minute of it! The positive energy amongst the team, the camaraderie of athletes, and competitiveness at the events coincide with my passions and strive for combining my interests: sports and charity. As president, my goals, in addition to increasing the amount of donations made for charity, has been to diversify the team and event participants. I've greatly enjoyed pushing and contributing towards these efforts over time, which I know will continue under the next leaders of C4C.

How do you describe your experience with Champions for Charity?
"Although I’ve only been with Champions for Charity for a short while, the experience has been one of the most rewarding of my life. Combining two of my passions, sports and philanthropy, Champions for Charity has allowed me to make a profound impact in an engaging and meaningful way. The combination of compassion and competition in each of our events, along with the amazing support we’ve had from the community, has certainly made this past year incredible. Seeing the passion my peers have for sports being translated into giving back to such deserving charities is truly inspiring, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it." |
What has been the most meaningful part of working for Champions for Charity?
Working for Champions for Charity has been an incredible experience for me. I have learned that I have the power to help change the world, and it has given me the opportunity to empower others to believe the same. I strongly believe that one can only live the most fullfilling life by giving to others. What's great about Champions for Charity is that it makes giving both accessible and enjoyable. Young athletes can do something that they love and at the same time make a difference in the world. |
Why did you join Champions for Charity?
"When Andrew proposed I join him in his endeavor, I was ecstatic to be a part of the team. What is so meaningful to me about Champions for Charity is that each different team can choose a unique charity. Being able to put on a tournament where the winning team gets hundreds of dollars for a cause that is close to them is a truly heartwarming feeling. By empowering young athletes to represent their specific charity, they are able to fulfill the goal of Champions for Charity: to connect young athletes to charity at a young age. I have learned so much about myself during my time with Champions for Charity, and I look forward to being a part of this outstanding organization for years to come." |
